Bucket List: Yellow Bellied Racer (Snakes of Colorado)

Today I found and photographed a beautiful Yellow Bellied Racer in Lafayette, CO. It took me some time to figure out exactly what type of snake this was, with the subtle sattlebags and yellow belly, but the aggression he showed should have been my first clue that he was a racer. He was blind in one eye, and very skinny and sickly looking so I didn’t handle him much. I tried for years to find and catch a blue racer back in MI, but never got the chance, so at least I’ve finally found one out here. Two Snakes caught and photographed in Colorado, 20 more to go.
