New MSU Spartans Logo

There’s been a lot of speculation and arguing about the possibility of a “new” logo design for MSU Spartans (see the trademark registration and make your own guess as to why it exists). I won’t spend a lot of time trying to speculate whether or not MSU is indeed changing their logo, but if I had a say, I would propose a cross between the original logo and the new trade mark (image shows original, new, and mine from left to right):

Or go a whole new direction completely and lose the plume:

What are your thoughts?

I think you hybrid re-work is better than their re-do, but still prefer the tried-and-true (current

I like the last design. Well done!

Other than that I would rather see MSU keep the one they have. What is the point behind all of this in the first place?

That IS better than the new one, but it adds another layer of “what’s the point?”. Leave it alone!

Yeah i agree with you all, why change such a timeless and classic logo.. But IF they’re going to re-brand, they might as well do it all (font, logo, colors).

Your re-work is great! If that were the change, I think the majority of MSU fans would be happy. But the one on the patent website is awful and polls that have taken place show a 85-90% hatred rate among the MSU crowd. Good work!

The hybrid is WAY better than the proposed new one! I hate the solid bar underneath the mane of it!

I agree with you and a lot of the other replies. I would like to keep our original one, but your redo is much better than Nikes. Good job. GO Green!

Love the hybrid. Better looking helmet then either the current or proposed new and better balancEd with the plume.

I think your hybrid design is outstanding.
Keeps basics of the old look, but with the new helmet, it gives a look of authority and strength.

Your hybrid looks great, too, and the full-on forward one is really cool. People are just so afraid of change sometimes. Either new logo will look just fine, and people will get used to it. As a graphic designer, I don’t believe in the “don’t fix what ain’t broke” approach — it’s GOOD to freshen things up every once in a while. The new one they are proposing is sleeker, tougher-looking than the old one. Not sure why there are so many silly complaints.

the total re-design is about corporate dollars for Nike and or the MFG.
when ever they enter into a new contract or want to generate new sales the change the color scheme and or logo….MSU will get the agreed amount no matter what……..Nike developed a new logo / design to generate new sales of new product Because a ” true fan will have to buy the new products”.I for one own over pieces of liscensed apparel and “WILL NOT BUY THE NEW APPAREL”
THANK YOU FOR YOUR TIME Mike Gulash

I like the new “hybrid” design better. But of all of them, they should go back to that great Sparty logo from the 1950s-60s.

I like your hybrid design, and the face-on look would also be good. I’m not a fan of the Nike-fied look. Did you use Arrow for the face-on text? It looks like it, but maybe with a little different letter thickness and kerning.

I agree with Clayton…honestly, the old logo is best. AND, I think the front view looks awesome, but reminds me of Iron Man…the Nike-proposed logo is just crap…

I think the old logo should stay but I agree with Clay if you are going to change your logo you might as well go ahead and change everything.
